The San Diego County Optometric Society Newsletters

I hope everyone had a wonderful 2017, and a great holiday season.  Now that we are through the holidays, the San Diego County Optometric Society is off and running into 2018.

As fast as 2017 arrived, it’s now coming to an end. For me personally, it seems like it was just yesterday that I nervously held my first board meeting followed by my first time hosting a CE lecture.

This month’s message is going to be short and sweet: We need you to represent Optometry to our legislators! In years past, California ODs descended upon the state legislature in Sacramento to educate our representatives about how we can provide greater care for our fellow citizens.

The San Diego County Optometric Society is one of the largest and most active societies in the state.

August is National Eye Exam Month, and it’s no coincidence that it comes right at the beginning of back to school season! The value of good eyesight cannot be underestimated.

June typically is associated with sunshine, summertime, family vacations, and the start of wedding season (I’ve become all too familiar with this last one).

We are a nation of Givers! As a whole, Americans have a long history of volunteering. In fact, as a part of our constitution, the ability to form voluntary associations has been a treasured aspect of American life since our nation’s founding.

Legislation is an important part of how we, as optometrists, are able to practice to the full scope of our training while increasing access to patients who benefit from our clinical expertise.

March, also known as “Save Your Vision” month, launches optometry’s national campaign to remind Americans of the importance of eye health and regular, comprehensive eye exams.

A couple of years ago I spent a weekend in Monterey in order to attend COA’s President’s Council.
