President’s Message By Erin Swift O.D.
So it must seem to most I’m saying good bye to 2014 a little prematurely, but as president this is my last address. Dry your eyes everyone… ;o) I looked forward to this final message since January, since coming up with interesting topics and writing about them effectively is a difficult challenge. However, now it is definitely bittersweet. Being president is a difficult and time consuming job and I applaud and thank all those who have taken it on before me and showed me the ropes. It’s also a gratifying job to know you are helping keep up the distinguished reputation of the San Diego County Optometry Society. It’s easy for a fairly young doctor such as myself to forget our society has a rich history that brought us to the present. I have considered it my job to keep the ball rolling and not mess it up! Hopefully I’ve succeeded in that endeavor.
There are many Thank Yous to be said, first and foremost I would like to thank the entire 2014 SDCOS Board of Directors. We have so many talented people that dedicate their free time to making our profession and community better every day. The president has his/her picture on the website, but it’s the entire board that keeps things running day after day, year after year. Thank you everyone for all your hard work, I really appreciate everything everyone has done. Our administrative assistant, Nancy Jo Sinkiewicz also deserves a “shout out”. She is a constant on our board and keeps things running smoothly year after year. She aides all the board members, especially the new executive board members as they assimilate into their new roles. Without her, we would all be lost. Our members also deserve a thank you. The board works hard to provide quality education, as well as volunteer and community service opportunities and we appreciate all of you that participate. It’s clique, but we are only as strong as our weakest member, but I think we are all pretty strong. Finally, I would like to thank all of our sponsors. None of the education and community service projects in which we are able to participate would be possible without your support. You attend all our meetings and supplementary functions and you are so appreciated. Thank you so much for all your support!
Lastly, I’m going to remind everyone of some upcoming events. November 20th is our last CE meeting of the year with Dr. Milton Hom. At 6pm COA will be having an information session about current legislative updates, please come early if you are interested. Also, our final event of the year, the holiday party will be held Dec 6th on board the ship Star of India in downtown San Diego. I think it will be a fun culmination to our year and I hope to see you all there!!
Thanks to everyone for their support this year everyone, I really appreciate it. I hope this year has been as productive for you as it has been me. While my picture will be soon off the website (I’m sure I’m not the only one grateful for that, haha), I’ll still be around to answer questions or assist in any way I can, Thank you so much and have a great 2015!!
