The San Diego County Optometric Society participated in a health
fair at the Horton Senior Center in Downtown SD on August 13, 2009
counseling and talking about eye conditions to over 100 seniors,
mostly of Chinese origin.
It was an exciting event with many organizations, hospitals and
health plans participating, especially explaining things in Chinese.
Fortunately, we had a few words of eye conditions spelled out in
Chinese plus a few translators were also on hand.
Byron Y. Newman, OD, chair of the Public Awareness Committee, was
ably assisted by Robert Meisel, OD., and volunteer student Rheela Kim.
Caroline Epps, the center's
activity director, kept things moving with prizes being offered in a
raffle every few minutes. She stated that our booth was a hit with
the residents.
